Stockholm, Sweden - November 12, 2024 -  Alma Wants New Playmates, a playful and dark erotic horror drama directed by Daniel Hållquist, is set to premiere on Vimeo OTT on December 1st.

The film follows a lesbian couple whose attempt to buy a bunk bed spirals into a nightmare when they find themselves trapped in the seller’s apartment, awaiting the arrival of his mysterious wife, Alma.

​

Daniel Hållquist wanted to create a film that was not only engaging but also a fun experience to make. Drawing inspiration from American no-budget filmmakers like Matt Farley and Mickey Reece, he aimed to capture the spirit of DIY-filmmaking at its roots—working alongside friends to bring a vision to life.

​

The production team, consisting of five members and four actors, including Hållquist himself, locked themselves away in an apartment in Skarpnäck for a week in the summer of 2022. After seven days, they emerged with a chamber piece featuring eclectic references from Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Jess Franco, and SOV Horror. This unusual blend creates a film that feels entirely its own, and Hållquist sees it as a blueprint for future projects that will explore genre-crossing elements of grindhouse, art cinema, dark comedy, and intense drama.

After its premiere on Vimeo OTT, Alma Wants New Playmates will be available on additional streaming platforms in 2025.
